Boing Boing reports that there is now a hairdryer available customized with Swarovski crystals.

Some of the comments on this article indicate a growing feeling that people are unhappy with the trend of blinging for the sake of bling – an inelegant hairdryer with a few sparklies does not make for a beautiful accessory. The initial wave of mobile phone customization was good – people owned and personalised their mass produced handsets.

But now, you can buy mass produced products that are pre-personalised – which is a contradiction in terms. Individuality is out the window as the manufacturers try to cash in on something that should be an artistic inspiration. What next? Door knobs?

Where next for Swarovski crystals? On your bathroom wall, it seems.

Both AlfaLux and GlassTileUSA are now offering wall tiles with inset Swarovski crystals, producing a highly attractive display. With the right lighting, your bathroom could bling all day long.

Now if only someone could figure out how to embed crystals in pots of paint…
